Late Bottled Vintage, or LBV, is the most popular premium Port style in both England and Canada, representing one in five purchases of Port in the UK and over a quarter of all Port enjoyed by Canadians.

Vintage Port and LBV both present a selection of very fine full bodied red ports from a single year. The fundamental difference between the two styles lies in the way each is matured. Vintage Port is kept in wood for only twenty months or so before being transferred to the bottle where it will continue to age.

Late Bottled Vintage, as the name suggests, is bottled later, remaining in wood between four and six years. During this relatively long period of wood ageing, an LBV matures and settles down -  it is ready to drink when bottled, does not need to be decanted and can be served by the glass for several weeks after the cork is drawn.

LBV was developed as a high quality but more affordable and immediately drinkable alternative to Vintage port to be enjoyed by the glass on everyday occasions. It was originally created in 1970 by Taylor’s current Chairman, Alistair Robertson.

Although many other houses now offer this wonderful style of wine, Taylor’s LBV – the original Late Bottled Vintage – remains the benchmark in the category; the first choice of the knowledgeable Port drinker.

Tasting Notes

Colour: Intense purple ruby colour.

Nose: Pungent aromatic nose with heaps of black woodland fruit, dark cherry and plum. Lovely clean, crisp freshness to the bouquet.

Palate: Rounded, smooth and perfectly balanced. Flavours of redcurrant, raspberry and blueberry in abundance, with a delicious hint of black liquorice, wonderful purity of fruit. In true Taylor style, the wine is very well structured with big firm tannins that hold the wine nicely together.

Finish: Wonderfully long.

Storage

Port will continue to age in the bottle and will improve in flavour if kept in good conditions.

The ideal storage conditions are up to 16º Celsius and most importantly at a constant temperature.

The bottle should rest on its side, thus keeping the cork moist and therefore an effective seal.

Order Process:

After ordering, we will take your details and create your engraving templates. We will then email you a draft to review and approve.

This is where you can see how the template looks and request any changes.

On the design draft you receive, the areas shown in black indicate what will be engraved. The actual engraving will appear as a silver-white finish on the bottle or crystal piece.

It is very important that you check the draft carefully for any errors, as we cannot amend or cancel orders once approval has been given or engraving has begun.

Personalised Hand Engraving:

This service allows for a completely customised set or item with your own design, crest, message, or a combination of these. Perfect for any purpose and any occasion.

Please ensure any images submitted are in black and white with clear lines. We cannot engrave photos. All designs are subject to the size of the item. Please be mindful of this when choosing your engraving.

If you cannot find a good image of what you are looking for, please get in contact, as we may already have the design on file. Alternatively, if you describe to us what you would like, we can create a design specifically for you.

If there are any issues with your submitted file, we will be in contact.

We engrave using traditional ultra-HD sandblasting, taking the time to wash, prepare and engrave each bottle or crystal piece by hand.

Unlike surface laser engraving that is now commonly used due to its faster and more modern nature.

Our designs are cut deep into the glass itself - not simply marked or printed on the outside.

This creates a beautiful sharp result, where each word looks clean and intentional, the cut areas on images are completely smooth and even the smallest details come through clearly.

Layout Information:

Text

For wording, we will, as standard, centre-align and size the text based on the design and the amount to be engraved.
If you would like a specific font, please let us know, or we can choose one that best fits the design.
As the old saying goes, “less is more” - shorter lines usually look better, as the font can be larger.

Images

We have a large library of images covering most occasions, so if you have something in mind, simply describe it and we can provide options.
If you are looking for a specific logo or crest, you can upload a file such as a Word document, AI file, or PDF. If we do not already have it, we will professionally convert it for engraving at no extra charge.
The limitation is that the image must be definable in black and white, so unfortunately we cannot convert photographs or some other designs.
If there are any issues with an uploaded design, we will contact you by email with an alternative.

Labelling

By law, we must retain certain details from the original label, such as the brand name, producer details, volume, and alcohol content.

These are engraved on the back of the bottle as a special engraved version of the label.

Please note that, due to licensing restrictions, we cannot engrave Army / MOD crests on bottles.
